Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Scottsdale Unified School District constantly reviews its procedures to ensure the safest possible environment for students. To that end, a change is coming to SUSD practice regarding emergency contacts.
Effective January 8, 2018, schools will not release a student to an emergency contact without verification from a parent or guardian. Emergency contacts may only pick up students under the following circumstances:
- With notification from the parent/guardian that the emergency contact will pick up the student on a regular basis
- When the parent/guardian calls or sends a note that the emergency contact will pick up the student in an isolated incident
- When a child needs to be picked up and the school cannot reach the parent/guardian
- In an emergency, the student will be released to whichever parent, guardian or emergency contact arrives first
The only real change from current practice is the notification aspect. We are adding an extra layer of security for students that ensures your children are never released to anyone other than you without your express, prior permission.
Please make sure your student’s emergency contact information is current, and thank you for your support of this new student safety procedure.
